Turn2Me Launches National Initiative to Support People Affected by Racism
Turn2Me, a national mental health charity, has announced a new initiative aimed at supporting individuals across Ireland who have experienced racism. The project, titled “Being Heard: Support for Those Affected by Racism,” will provide free counselling and online support groups to those impacted, helping them process their experiences in a safe and supportive environment.
Racism continues to have a profound effect on mental health, often leaving individuals feeling isolated, unheard, and excluded. This initiative seeks to address those challenges directly by offering up to 500 free one-to-one counselling sessions alongside 30 professionally facilitated online support groups.
Participants will have access to confidential spaces where they can speak openly about their experiences, connect with others, and receive professional support. The project also aims to amplify the voices of those affected through anonymised feedback, helping to inform public understanding and contribute to national conversations around racism.
Moira Horgan, CEO of Turn2Me, said:
“Racism doesn’t just impact people in the moment — it can have lasting effects on mental health and wellbeing. This project is about ensuring that those affected feel heard, supported, and understood. By creating safe spaces and sharing real experiences, we hope to contribute to meaningful change.”
The initiative will also include a national awareness campaign, sharing insights gathered throughout the project to highlight the real-life impact of racism in Ireland. Turn2Me will collaborate with community organisations to ensure the service reaches those most in need.
Operating entirely online, the programme will be accessible nationwide, removing barriers to support and ensuring inclusivity regardless of location.
This project aligns with Ireland’s National Action Plan Against Racism, particularly its focus on ensuring people who experience racism are both supported and heard.
